On November 29 2001, John Knowles passed away. But his death hasn't stopped his past experiences portrayed in ,the classic, "A Separate Peace" to live on. In 2004, three years after his death, "A Separate Peace" was adapted as a film for the second time, now by Peter Yates. Both the novel and the film are set in New Hampshire during World War II and tell the story of a sixteen-year-old boy named Gene. In both versions, Gene goes to a boarding school and makes friends with a boy named Finny, who he slowly grows to become jealous of. The film version of A Separate Peace portrays Gene in a way that is much alike to the novel. However, the film is different from the novel because it leaves out some individuals, is told through a dialogue instead of narration, and has some dissimilar scenes.
