- one of my favorite minerals is seraphinite! it's a chatoyant mineral that got its name due to having a feather-like appearance, similar to the wings of seraphim
- tiger's eye is a pseudomorph of quartz after asbestos. the interspersing of quartz between the fibrous asbestos gives it a chatoyant appearance
- i started collecting minerals about six years ago! my first specimen was an amethyst cluster with needle-like iron inclusions that i called 'tobacco amethyst'. i haven't really seen the name used elsewhere but i still honestly think it sounds like a nice colloquialism ^_^
