- You can cycle everywhere. It's lovely to cycle around in the city, going places you've never been before.
- The canals and surrounding houses are really pretty. Especially in winter when it snows.
- Hidden in the dark forest of chain stores and shops filled with tourist trumperies, there's a growing amount of vintage stores and little boutiques.
- There are great museums; for example the Van Gogh museum, Hermitage and Rijksmuseum.
- Because it's a fairly small town, everything you need is nearby. Yet there are always little alleyways yet to be discovered.
- There are many small and historic cinemas, like Rialto, Cinecenter, the Movie, de Uitkijk and the Filmmuseum in the Vondelpark. Watching Annie Hall, other classics or a new movie in one of these theatres is an unforgettable experience!
- Huge bookstores with a big collection of English books everywhere, but also little markets with old books for one Euro or even less.
