many people say they don’t comment on fics bc they don’t know what to say or what the reader would wanna hear so here’s a short thread on what you can say in a comment on someone’s fic you’ve read
- a simple thank you. no comment is too big or too smal. trust me, all the writer wants to do is hear from their audience. if all you want to say is “thanks for this i really loved it!” then please. Please. do that. it means more than you know.
- your favorite part. oh man!! PLEASE tell them about your favorite part!! the beauty of this is, it varies from reader to reader. a writer would love to know which part stuck out to you the most. if you have a fav part, do tell!
- your emotions as you read. most of the time when you read a fic, you feel something. some form of an emotion. when you’re finished reading, let the writer know what you felt. are you happy? sad? confused? let them know!
- a small compliment. did you like the writers writing style? did their characterization really stand out? was their dialogue fantastic? any positivity you have, please please please let them know! it’s sooooo encouraging to a writer.
- something supportive. just a simple “keep writing!” or a “you’re very talented!” as a comment can do so much for a writer. please don’t underestimate your power as a reader.
- a string of your thoughts and/or emotions as you’ve read. this one takes a bit more effort so i don’t Expect anyone to do it all the time. but if you write down the parts you liked and then put them in one big comment, that’s super sweet too! i love long comments!
- anything. Anything!! honestly! if you’ve made it to the end of someone’s fic say Something. big or small, it doesn’t matter. literally any kind of feedback encourages writers to keep going. if you have a moment, please leave a comment. writers just wanna hear back from you.
