Music I discovered in 2009

  • Tom Lehrer: Quirky humorist + awesome rag-time piano (mid-century) = awesome satire and great songs.
  • The Village Green: Kinks infused contemporary alt, lots of "oooohs," and "Ahhhhs."
  • NeverShoutNever: Melodic power-pop with well constructed melodies, unabashedly romantic and introspective lyrics, and indie sensibilities.
  • The Dry Spells: fem retro rock laden with heavy drumming, simple acoustic folksy instrumentation, and multi-layered harmonious vocals that harken back to chants of monks mixed with the presence of 1960's melodies and story telling.
  • St. Vincent - Singer/Songwriter making highly textured and heavily experimental indie folk-pop with cool yet emotive vocalization and bluesy yet accessible tonalities.
  • Fanfarlo- London based folk blended with melodic and driving Indie Pop heavy on trumpet, violin, and mandolin, and other acoustic instruments.
  • Noah and the Whale - Beautiful, orchestral, dramatic, aching, and symphonically explosive alt rock with the british flare I love so much.
  • Telekinesis- Straight up Seattle style Indie Rock, good driving music. Needs air, beckons story.
  • Jason Lytle - Breathy introspective lyrics, dreamy rich layers of sound, surf-rocker guitar riffs paired with undeniably "indie" vocalizations.
  • Pasion Pit - Hyper catchy electro-pop/dance rife with Autotune, and memorable melodious vocal and beat riffs.
  • Dr. Dog - Acoustic, Lo-fi, stompy rootsy bluesy psyche rock.
