memories
- summerisle was an island off the coast of scotland. i believe it was actually a little farther up north; just a few degrees further than the isle of lewis.
- summerisle was not the family's original surname, but my grandfather changed it and it stuck from then on. we were scottish, i think.
- not everyone on the island was scottish, and accents got a bit muddled as generations went on because there was no divide.
- i'm not sure how to describe our faith yet. we were very traditional pagans, and followed the wheel of the year.
- we followed gaulish/celtic traditions. our god of the sun was alaunus and the goddess of our orchard was nantosuelta.
- the movie took place on beltane, which involved lots of lessons about fertility; we did not force sex on children. it was taught healthily, of course, just as everything else was.
- no children under... 10-11 were taught about sex. i can't say i know what all of the children were doing, but if they were experimenting, it was safely.
- we did do sacrifices. we usually didn't do sacrifices of humans, because that's a little extreme, but our crops failing was something that took desperate measures. i believe i remember three within my lifespan.
- we valued the lives of our livestock, and of the people we sacrificed. murder is reckless, and solely for the purpose of death. sacrifice is purposeful and promotes rebirth.
- sgt. howie's strength and devotion to that which he believed in strengthened the power of the sacrifice.
- yes, our crops did flourish the next year. they were even better the one after that.
- my home was not as affluent as expressed in the film, either. yes, i had a piano, and yes, there were a few paintings, but it wasn't like. three floors
- i loved all of the members of our commune, including rowan, like my own children.
- ...however, i'm not sure if any of them were my children.
- sgt. howie was very fun to mess with. all of us were a pinch odd, but we weren't as odd as expressed- far from it. we were relatively normal people.
- however, my opinions about the christian god stood true among it all. those were my own, uninfluenced.
- the manwoman wig was made of horsehair and i'm not sure how to feel about that
