- i was born somewhere in southeastern tennessee, sometime in january 1950-something. my full name was audrey lucille stone!
- my family was Very Christian. like, go to church every sunday (and… probably more ngl) and say a prayer over dinner sorta thing
- i think we were lutheran? very strict regardless but
- i remember we lived in a two-story house with a cellar that had a lot of preserved food in it, on a street where the houses all looked different. there was a field at the end of the street that expanded for probably miles.
- zoot and his family moved in across the street and up a couple houses when i was around 7. we were very good friends; i gave him the nickname zoot, in fact. he was already interested in sax when we met, and “zoot” was the first word out of my mouth when i tried to describe the sound
- i don’t wanna say he was my only friend, but he was pretty close to it
- i started developing attraction to other girls my age somewhere in middle school, but tried to keep quiet about it. i didn’t need to say anything about it. i did say something to zoot when we were together privately; he didn’t care
- my parents did, though
- i got kicked out when i was 17. it got out somewhere when we were in a… more heated discussion- and i was basically just told to get out.
- i remember packing up a backpack with everything i could fit in it as i listened to shouting and crying downstairs. pop shattered something, i think a plate.
- i immediately went to zoot’s door; i had no other option. his parents took me in with little objection and let me stay with them until i moved out.
