Two months ago, my best friend died in a fire. I was told that he would've made it out alive, except he ran back to try save his two-year-old half-sister. They found him holding her, she died in his arms while he was trying to protect her from the flames.

Today my 7 year old daughter gave my 5 year old son a kiss on the cheek. After she walked away, I saw him rubbing the spot where she had kissed him. I asked if he was wiping the kiss off. He said "no, I'm rubbing it in so it gets to my heart faster."

As a child, I remember begging on the streets for money. I also remember a little boy who used his allowance to buy my mother and I food each weekend. I remember my mom getting sick, the little boy taking us in, the love songs he wrote for me while we lived with them, and walking down the aisle with him.

Today I was pushing a cart full of groceries outside in the pouring rain, when I noticed I wasn't getting wet. I turned around and saw a man holding an umbrella over my head. He smiled and said, "I don't mind if I get wet."

I was in the car with my 6 year old brother, Connor. He was telling stories about his day at school. When all of a sudden he asked to stop the car! So my mother pulled over and let him out. He sneezed. He then told us that he didn't want his mommy getting sick. Our mom has cancer, and has a very bad immune system.

You know what I've noticed about GMH? No one ever posts "I Give ME Hope". This post will be different because, today i confronted my mother and make her realize that she can't call me something i'm not. Mom, I'm not stupid, I'm not fat, I'm not ugly and i hope someday you'll realize inner beauty matters. I GMH.

My 7 year old brother is autistic and has a very hard time with fine motor skills so he was held back. But one day over the weekend he sat at the table for two hours trying to string beads into a bracelet all by himself. The reason? He loves a little girl in his class named Cindy because she plays with him.

Today, I slipped on ice and sprained my ankle on my walk home from work. A young man in a wheelchair witnessed the incident and insisted on helping me. I ended up sitting on his lap as he wheeled me 8 blocks down the street to my apartment.

Today i got a text from my boyfriend instructing me to go into my bedroom for 15 minutes. When he text me to come out again, i walked into a flood of pink balloons. He told me he'd blown up all 730 of them by himself -- one for each day I've fought cancer.

Two years ago, I took my 21 year old mentally slow cousin to Disneyland. When we went to meet the Princesses, without a moments hesitation Cinderella went up to her and said, "Oh, it's so lovely to meet another princess!" My cousin still talks about that to this day.

I met a 16 year old genius who was in medical school, studying to be a pediatric neurosurgeon. He put every dollar he made at his job into a retirement fund. Why? He wanted to be able to retire at age 30, so that he could spend the rest of his life performing brain surgeries for free.

Today I was ice skating when I saw a little girl fall down. I tried to help her laugh it off, but she just stayed down on the ice looking sad. After I skated off, I noticed the other kids from her skating class heading over toward her. One of the little boys tripped himself and fell so she wouldn't feel embarrassed.

My dad teaches fifth grade. A boy in his class was diagnosed with brain cancer recently. His five year old sister made 500 bookmarks to sell for $2 each, and would send the money to the Tomorrow Fund. She sold all of them within three days, and is making more.

Freshman year, there was a crippled girl bound to a wheelchair. For 4 years, she did physical therapy and progressed to crutches. When we graduated a few weeks ago, she handed her crutches to an officer and walked across the entire stage. The applause from the seniors was deafening. She cried the whole way.

On the return bus trip from my night class, I noticed a very young girl fawning over my bright pink hair. Her mother discouraged her from bothering me or speaking with strangers, especially "troubled teens." Instead, the child retorted, "She's not troubled, Mommy-- she's a princess!"

Today, I was babysitting three young children with my boyfriend. The three year old girl is in full foot to chest braces. We were playing outside and she said to my boyfriend "I can't run like my brother and sister" and he replied "yes but you can fly" and picked her up and flew her around all day. I have never seen her so happy.

Today was my cousins Kaylee's fifth birthday, and a little girl with Dwarfism was at her party. Kaylee came up to me holding her hand and said, "This is my best friend Elena, and she can't grow. She's special, God made her that way."

I used to take care of a boy with Down Syndrome. When he was little he went to the hospital. He was sitting in the waiting room and a prisoner with cuffs on was sitting next to him. He picked up a magazine and began turning the pages for the man in the cuffs.

I am a teacher for second graders. This past week we've been learning about facts and opinions. I said the statement "You are beautiful." A little girl raised her hand and said it was a fact. When I told her no she said, "Everybody is beautiful. No matter what, they are beautiful."

I have very prominent scars from years of cutting on my legs. I wore shorts today for the 1st time in years. A little boy came up and told me "wow, you're real brave and strong if you have so many battle scars. Next time let me fight for you. Pretty girls shouldn't go to battle."

Yesterday I saw a "gangsta" play "Whack-a-Mole" at an amusement park and win, then let the little girl beside him pick which stuffed dog she wanted. He did this five times for five different little kids.

Today, I saw that someone had changed some graffiti on the subway from 'kill yourself' to 'fulfill yourself'.

While I was at work, a dust storm blew through my town and covered my car in a thick coating of dirt.

When I got off and went to my car, I saw a local homeless man with a bottle of windex and paper towels cleaning my windows. I asked him why and he smiled and told me, "Your car should be as pretty as you."

I used to pass by a homeless person everyday. Suddenly, a small orphaned girl handed him a basket of fruits. They talked everyday from then. After getting a job, he adopted her.

When I was six or so I held the door open for an old man, and he told me that one day I would find a great boyfriend. Today, 11 years later with my boyfriend holding my hand, I walked into the same place, and the same old man was there holding the door for me, winked and said, I told you so.

When I was 17 my boyfriend fell into a coma. I was told he wouldn't make it. After 6 months his parents took him off life support. When his heart started to fail I went to kiss him goodbye. When I did his heart skipped a beat. It's been 6yrs. Tomorrw we're getting married.
