- Porter, Eleanor. Pollyanna. An orphan who is glad all the time goes to live with a woman who is not at all appreciative of her continual gladness. When she gets hit by a car and stops being glad, the woman realizes she misses the gladness after all.
- Robertson, Keith. The Henry Reed books. Henry Reed and his friend Midge Glass pursue a variety of entrepreneurial activities and they can because it's the 50s.

- White, E.B. Stuart Little. A mysterious and biologically improbable set of circumstances leads to a human couple having a mouse baby. But who cares, he has a tiny car and there are illustrations and it is AMAZING.
- White, E.B. The Trumpet of the Swan. A mute swan intuitively understands English and learns the trumpet in order to woo his love interest (who is not really that wonderful herself but at least he still has watercress sandwiches).
