external monologues

  • identifying the main characters:
    • cassandra + "marty"
  • character introductions:
    • cassandra: as an average if dramatically self-centered barmaid, she has no aspirations other than perhaps marrying rich. being abducted and dragged on a time-traveling quest to save the galaxy is in no way fitting in with her life goals, and she would like to go home right now and pretend this whole ordeal never happened.
    • "marty:" being deemed the prodigal son at an early age, he has always borne the weight of his fathers aspirations for him. just when he decided to stand up for himself and make his own path, his father presents him with one last burden he can't refuse: find the prophet so that she can save the galaxy. if he's successful, he'll have a world life upon which he can find his own destiny.
  • description (outside pov):
    • cassandra: with wild, brown hair and a large, prominent nose that well-balances her fierce eyes and luscious mouth, her beauty is unconventional yet obvious.
    • marty: his face is so much stronger than his body, with his strong jaw that pulls his face into a sharp triangular shape. despite his face still being unblemished from youth, his eyes are deep and piercing, lending him years he hasn't yet earned.
  • description (self pov):
    • cassandra: i'm definitely pretty. i'm not going to be joining a modeling agency or anything, but i know what my assets are, and they sure as hell aren't calculus or something. no. i'm pretty, and i know when to keep my damn mouth shut, and that alone can get you far in life. i plan to go far in life.
    • marty: i've never thought about what i wanted until recently. it was always what i was suppose to do, what i needed to accomplish. then my brother found the love of his life and got permission from the government for special breeding assignment, and it hit me. this life isn't what makes me happy. i'm smart and clever and quick on my feet, and that alone can get you far in life. the question is, what am i running from? i don't want to go far; i want to be happy right where i am. i plan to be happy someday.
  • occupational skills:
    • cassandra: bar-tending, putting up with grease-balls.
    • marty: advanced trans-dimensional physics and engineering.
  • enhancement/contrast:
    • cassandra: she has incredible compassion for kids in tough spots.
    • marty: he loves to dance. despite how much his father disproved of its frivolous and useless nature, marty always loved to dance.
  • symbolic element:
    • cassandra: none
    • marty: his brother's ring
