• preston + grant: super rich, grew up together, both born popular
  • preston: is more 'rebel without a cause' and tries to instigate trouble because he's bored. dating liz, but still unsuccessfully sleezes on lilith. his dad's a politician, and he understands "scratching someone else's back." isn't super smart, but he's super well connected and resourceful.
  • grant: doesn't care. doesn't try, because he's getting by. he doesn't date anyone but sleeps with chloe pretty regularly. epitome of "when good men do nothing." doesn't follow authority, and often questions samael's decisions. he always wants people to explain things in simplest terms.
• diana + liz: the top of the social pyramid. friends since diana moved into town when she was seven.
  • diana: everyone genuinely likes diana, but she is pretty sociopathic. she manipulates people, sometimes for good ends, sometimes not. she does nice things for people, because it's another way to control their lives. she's the brains. she doesn't let anyone close though (especially romantically), so she is seen as this virginal goddess. has an older sister and a fairly functional home life (with happily married parents who seldom fight). makes perfect grades. always is suspicious of lilith. has a (slight) crush on chase that she's trying to stomp down, leading to her noticing how the two demons treat him.
  • liz: suffers from major anxiety and is mostly held together by diana. she's the front, the doer, but she suffers from incredibly low self-esteem and always worries diana will leave her (which diana shamelessly exploits). liz is super egocentric, but that's because she's the only one looking out for her. her mother and father are still married, but her father is always on international business trips, and her mother is sleeping with (the mother's) "gay best friend." always tries to passive-aggressively put lilith down, before being physically or verbally bitch-slapped for her efforts.
• chloe: is desperately trying to climb the social ladder.
  • lived here her whole life. she's smart and pretty, but not smarter than diana or prettier than liz. she has a lot of self confidence but really low self esteem. she sleeps around a lot, because she (being drastically younger than her two brothers and sister) always heard sex wasn't a big deal. she always feels sort of guilty thinking about how others probably see her, but she personally doesn't feel bad about "using her advantages." always agrees with liz, and tries to avoid diana after being mildly psychologically tortured by her in middle school.

dustin's friends

• ricky: dustin's only actual friend
  • eric is a really nice guy. he's creative and wants to write scripts for rpgs, movies, or television shows. he spends a lot of time drawing concepts or writing narratives instead of doing homework. he knows lots of useless things (which he mostly learned through researching plot ideas). he's seeing katie but has always secretly crushed on lisa. he volunteers at the library and at the local elementary school. only child who lives with a single mom (who is a secretary).
• lisa: the mad scientist
  • lisa wants to be an astrophysicist. she's always reading and hangs out at the library a lot whenever ricky is working. she lives with her aunt and uncle, since her aunt is fourteen years older than her mom (who had her two weeks after her high school graduation). her mom is alive, somewhere, but she wouldn't know how to find her. she wants to succeed at everything, but doesn't mind being second best as long as it's her best. she gets exhausted if she has to spend any time with katie or her friend, but she puts up with the girl for ricky's sake. she doesn't even consider having a relationship, because she hears from her aunt all the time about what her mother did and she doesn't want to disappoint her aunt. got a black belt in american martial arts ("the most useless, waste-of-time form of self-defense imaginable"), because her uncle wanted her to (even though she really wanted to take gymnastics. likes to shout to her music while she thinks she's alone. wears huge, over-the-ear headphones even at school (which is the only reason you'll ever catch her in detention).
• caleb: sort of a dork
  • he loves video games and movies. he watches millions of movies and even has this lair of cinema thing going on in the attic of his house (which is why a lot of people hang out at his house). he's nice enough, but socially awkward and obsessive. i'm pretty sure he thinks he actually lives in D&D. works at the renaissance festival every year.
• katie: band anti-geek
  • she's first cello and has lots of friends from band, but she only switched from chorus this year when the chorus teacher was forced to leave due to the scandal (started by diana) where he was accused of inappropriately touching one of his students. the replacement was a "stupid, blond bimbo who can't tell an alto from a metzo." she goes to lots of house parties and is friends with the chorus kids (who are rich and rebellious) and now a lot of the sports teams (who are just rich). she loves pizza and is a vegetarian. she doesn't really like ricky because they don't have a lot of the same interests, but she is scared to leave him because he's her first boyfriend.
• josh: research happy, linguistic-fiend
  • spends over half of his life obsessing over (and denying) the fact that he's gay. there is so much more to him though, so the fact that he obsesses over his sexual orientation (while it may seem cute to katie and disturbing to caleb) actually annoys the crap out of ricky and lisa, who always try and steer the conversation back onto more interesting topics. he grew up in louisiana and moved here after katrina. he doesn't have a cajun accent though because his father didn't (even though his step-mom does). his mom was active duty military and died overseas when he was two, so he doesn't remember her. he is fluent in english, (cajun) french, spanish, german, korean, and is learning latin. he wants to be a teacher or a german-korean translator for the UN. he's on swim team, and even though he never makes first place, he always places. he is sort of serial dating through all of the foreigners (guys and girls, because "i told you i was bi") even though he only kisses/sleeps with boys. is best friends with lisa.
