Cedar is an English word for the coniferous tree, derived (via Old French and Latin) from Greek κέδρος (kedros) which is possibly related to the Arabic قَطْرَان (qaṭrān), meaning “resin, tar”.
I have been drawn to the name Cedar for years. I had gone on a search to find names that remind me of home, names that feel tied to that farm I grew up on. Cedar is one of them. The farm is dotted with cedars and the scent of cedar cabinets is a fond memory.
