Thalia is from the Greek name Θάλεια (Thaleia) meaning "flourishing; joyful" from θάλλειν (thállein) meaning "to flourish, to be verdant / green".

Thalia is mentioned a few times in Greek mythology. I have a favorite instance though:

Thalia is one of the Muses, a goddess who presided over comedy and idyllic poetry. She was portrayed as a joyous young woman, crowned with ivy, wearing boots, and holding a comics mask. She is also sometimes portrayed with a bugle and/or a trumpet, a shepherd's staff, or a wreath of ivy.

I also associate it with The Thalians. This is a charity dedicated to mental health related matters that was named in Thalia's honor. Founded by young actors in 1955, their current focus is primarily the mental health of military members and their families. I have worked with seniors and military veterans for quite a few years now and so this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

Thalia is name that I associate with flowers. Not just a few, but a heaping mound of big, round blossoms. They are pink and wonderful. It feels extravagant.
