food-blog recipes + google reader = YUM and easy to find

  • Touch-of-Grace Biscuits
  • French-Style Warm Lentil Salad and it's best if you eat it with cornichons and slices of salami and watermelon for dessert just like Molly does.
  • Brown-Buttered Corn -- my go-to dish for Thanksgiving
  • Nick Malgieri's Supernatural Brownies and I don't even like brownies
  • My friend Katy's Creamy Hot Cocoa It's a little more work than opening a package of Swiss Miss, but it is sooo chocolately that it is worth the effort. Make sure you get that milk piping hot for warm fingers and a warm belly.
  • Orange Crumb Cake
  • Sliced Mushrooms with Fresh Mozzarella and Thyme This comes from Jamie Oliver via Molly at Orangette and it is ALL mushroom, so if you don't like the edible fungus and aren't willing to give it another shot, this is probably not the recipe for you. For me, for lunch, it was (as Molly said) perfect.
  • Garlic-Herb Breadsticks Made these with store-bought pizza dough. It was quick and easy, but I wasn't a fan of the sweetness in the dough. I found myself wanting a more basic platform for the herbs and cheese and garlic. Next time, maybe I'll use...
  • The Easiest Pizza Dough in the World I love this recipe because I'm scared of every bread that requires kneading and leavening. This uses leavening, but rests for only 10 minutes before being stretched onto a pan, topped, and baked. I made mine margherita-style.
  • Frozen Raspberry Eton Mess LOVED this recipe. It's ice cream without the fancy machine -- raspberries, lemon curd, crumbled meringues swirled into sweetened cream and frozen overnight. Mmmm. Next step: experiment with flavors.
  • Raspberry-Limeade Slushies Everyone was posting raspberry recipes this summer. I love limes, too, so this was perfectly refreshing.
  • She Craves' Margaritaville Cupcakes This recipe takes a lot of time, but is completely doable and is worth the effort for a special occasion or dinner party with friends. The cupcakes were delicate; the curd, tart; the buttercream, sweet and tangy.
  • Lemony Zucchini-Goat Cheese Pizza from Smitten Kitchen It was a bit too goat-cheesy for my brother. Next time I think I'll dot the pizza with little chunks of goat cheese and/or sprinkle some chopped hazelnuts on top. Unless you LOVE goat cheese (which I do), it needed another strong flavor to stand up to it. I used The Easiest Pizza Dough in the World (see above) again and I do love how simple it is, but now I'm wanting something thinner and crisper.
  • Herbed Summer Squash and Potato Torte Another recipe inspired by the bounty of the vegetable garden. I forgot the third layer of potato and it still tasted great.
  • Whole-Grain Spaghetti with Prosciutto, Pecorino, and Pepper A tasty and hearty pasta that's perfect for fall, just as Giada promised.
  • Buttermilk Squash Soup She's right about the browned butter. It really does add to the flavor. I just used ground cumin. I also through in a couple carrots for color and fried some chopped bacon for a garnish.
  • Zucchini Bread: Four loves from three different cooks
    • Heidi of 101 Cookbooks Loved the ginger and poppy seeds and spice in this one. Will definitely put more ginger into the next batch I make.
    • Emeril of Emeril A bit too crumbly, but that may be because I didn't let it cool.
    • Deb of Smitten Kitchen Good basic recipe, I think. I threw chocolate chips into this one for my brother, but I'd have liked to try it plain.
  • Almost No-Knead Bread from Cook's Illustrated So, so good. I can't even begin to tell you. I'd never made a loaf of bread before and this turned out perfectly. Love heading to CI when I'm trying something for the first time. The tips are a must for someone who didn't grow up in the kitchen.
  • Just so you know, Summer Squash Soup with Parsley-Mint Pistou and Zucchini Salad with Lemon-Mint Vinaigrette served with the CI Bread makes a perfect end-of-summer girls' night meal.
  • I made these Buttermilk Cookies with Lemon Zest with too much butter and too little lemon, but they still came out pretty tasty.
  • I used this Feta Salsa as a condiment on some fake gyros I threw together with greek-spiced chicken, lettuce, greek yogurt, and pita bread. I'd use more herbs next time and would also give it a squeeze of lemon. Add cucumbers to the gyro mix and maybe some hummus and you'd have quite a tasty meal.
