What might help learning how to compose, or just getting ideas down on paper
- Talking more with Jo, Tori, and anybody else online I can find. help moi, please.
- Re-looking at the two composition courses I took. Probably just need to hammer information into my brain. There might be specific lessons on how to transcribe music that I've already recorded.
- Oh! And Dr. Myers. He said if I send him one of my recordings & the attempt at writing it down, he might be able to find where I'm going on (thanks prof!)
- HEre's something that might really help: seeing if I can somehow hook up a midi keyboard and actually transcribing my piece automatically. How cool would that be??? Sounds super helpful in getting down iideas. Plus it would speed up the process. Wahhhhhhhhhh I hope it works. Have to check the manual for the piano and possibly buy a "midi box" whatever that is
- finally, just like... believeing in myself? I feel like I should follow Dr. Myers advice that is, "Write a ton of bad music before you can make good music". Instead of striving to write 'one perfect piece' or expecting myself to write beautiful music in the beginning, I have to write some absolutely ear-shattering awful music. Or baby music. Baby Mozart. Maybe I need to listen to Baby Mozart. Oh yeah! and also need to look at other composers and analyze their music. Once I understand what they're doing, and how they're doing it, it might really really help.
