A guide to echoes in Wuthering Waves: A breakdown of Moga's video on YouTube

What are echoes?

For Genshin and Star Rail players: Echos are your artifacts/relics, essentially

For non-genshin/star rail players: They are equipable items (slain + absorbed enemies) that increase your characters strength.

You can have up to five.

Echo factions/elements

All Echoes fall under a certain "faction"/element. Freezing Frost, Molten Rift, etc.

Multiple Echoes of the same faction provide bonuses known as the Sonata effect (ex. Sierra Gale gets you Aero buffs).

Don't worry about sets (Sonata effects) early game, main stats should be focused on instead.

Cost/types of echoes

Each echo has a cost associated with it

The three main types/costs of echoes:

  • Cost 4
  • Cost 3
  • Cost 1

You have a total cost, so the costs of your equipped echos combined cannot exceed your cost (you start with a cost of eight, but as your data bank level increases you can get up to 12).

Stats

Echos that cost 4 are much stronger. They have special main stats, main stats you cannot get with echoes that cost 1 or 3 (in bold)

  • HP%
  • DEF%
  • ATK%
  • Crit Rate
  • Crit DMG
  • Healing Bonus %

Special main stats for cost 3 echoes (main stats you can't get with cost 4 or 1 echoes):

  • HP%
  • DEF%
  • ATK%
  • Element DMG%
  • Energy Regen

Cost 1 echoes don't have special main stats. They can have HP%, DEF% and ATK% but nothing else. Cost 1 echoes are still very useful, though. DPS' that scale off of ATK% still benefit for the ATK% main stat on cost 1 echos and healers that scale off of HP% benefit from that, and so on.

Typically for DPS' your cost 4 will need a crit rate main stat, and for healers you'll want healing bonus. Cost 3 will want element dmg bonus (for whatever element the character is) for dps', healers or any non dmg dealers will want energy regen and/or the main stat they scale with.

Jiyan is a special case because he is an ultimate based dps, meaning he might want energy regen over aero dmg bonus.

Cost 1 echoes will want the stat your character scales with (go into fortes and look at skill detail to see what stat percentage they scale with).

The secondary stat (under the main stat) will always be flat hp for cost 1 echoes, and for cost 4 & 3 it will always be flat atk. It never changes so just ignore it.

Upgrading

Everytime you upgrade an echo 5 levels, you unlock the ability to tune a substat (sub attribute slot). Your sub stat is random and can be one of 13 different stats (value of substats are ranked based on a Jiyan build):

  • Flat HP - Bad
  • Flat ATK - Okay
  • Flat DEF - Bad
  • HP% - Bad
  • ATK% - Good
  • DEF% - Bad
  • Crit Rate - Good
  • Crit DMG - Good
  • Energy Regen - Good
  • Basic Attack DMG- Bad
  • Heavy Attack DMG - Okay
  • Resonance Skill DMG - Okay
  • Resonance Liberation DMG - Bad

Tune one time to see if the first main stat you get is good for your character.

Rarities

The higher the rarity the better the main stat (main stats benefit more from leveling the higher the rarity an echo is).

Sub stats are the same regardless of cost or rarity.

Don't invest in greens, blues only purples and golds. If you invest in purples or golds, then be careful.

Echo skill

Whatever echo you have in your first slot will grant you a special ability in game.

Ideally you want your highest cost echo in that slot because they are stronger.

Data bank Raising your data bank helps increase the rarity of the echoes that you can collect.

You get data bank exp if you collect a new echo or a new rarity of an echo.

Scroll to the bottom of your data bank to see which echoes you can improve/collect.

Wait until data bank level 11 to do data merge, and try to get to data bank level 15.
