- hecate
- crossroads, entrance-ways, dogs, light, the moon, magic, witchcraft, knowledge of herbs and poisonous plants, ghosts, necromancy, and sorcery. she sees in three directions (past, present and future). the greek goddess hecate reminds us of the importance of change, helping us to release the past, especially those things that are hindering our growth, and to accept change and transitions. she sometimes asks us to let go of what is familiar, safe, and secure and to travel to the scary places of the soul.
- artemis
- an independent spirit, she is goddess of the hunt, nature and birth. there are several different theories about the origin of her name, one school of thought says it comes from an ancient word for "safe" and another argues that it means "strong limbed." either way the suggestion is that this maiden goddess has the strength and ability to protect herself from any unwanted attention.
- seshat
- the great scribe and librarian goddess who was responsible for accounting, architecture, astronomy, historical records and mathematics. she was also the inventor of writing.
- persephone
- underworld, spring and rebirth. she became queen of the underworld helping to escort the souls of the dead. her exit from the underworld heralds the beginning of spring as she helps her mother to bring life and bounty back to the land. this dual role makes her a goddess of death and rebirth.
- cerridwen
- goddess of moon, magic, agriculture, nature, poetry language, music, art, prophecy, science and astrology. she was also keeper of the cauldron. like the goddess herself, the cauldron symbolizes the transformative power of magic, wisdom, rebirth and creative inspiration. for these reasons she is seen as a patron goddess of witches and wizards.
