what IS the gospel?
- the gospel is good news meant for all mankind! the news is that through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is salvation for all who put their faith in Him. it's not simply "being a good person" or checking off boxes to get to heaven but recognizing the need for a Savior.
- the gospel can be found in 1 corinthians 15:1-4:
- ❝now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. by this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. otherwise, you have believed in vain. for what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures❞
- to believe in vain means to believe with your mind but not your whole heart or vanity which focuses more on what we do to "earn heaven," not Christ's finished work on the cross.
key takeaways ━━━
˖ Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh. if the gospel was about some man, it wouldn't be good news. it's about the Creator himself coming and dying for us.
˖ why did Christ have to die? he died for our sins according to the scriptures. we are all sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God, MYSELF!! included!! have you ever been angry at someone; stole from a shop; or even lied before? sin separates us from God. His standard for heaven is perfection. without sacrifice, how could we achieve heaven on our own?
˖ Jesus Christ's death on the cross bridged the gap between God and humanity.
˖ throughout The Old Testament, there needed to be a blood sacrifice for remission of sins. the Bible says if you believe and trust in Christ's finished work, you WILL have eternal life and get salvation for your sins.
- ❝for by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.❞ — ephesians 2:8-9

- ❝for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. this was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. it was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. then what becomes of our boasting? it is excluded. by what kind of law? by a law of works? no, but by the law of faith. for we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.❞ — romans 3:23-28
