Lewis is the Medieval English form of Louis, which is ultimately which is from the German Hluodowig (Ludwig), meaning "famous in war".
It brings to mind Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis as well as the Lewis & Clark Expedition. They give it a sense of whimsy for me. I feel like a Lewis sits somewhere between camping in the forest and looking for fairy rings. I think it's sweet.
