- out of tune upright pianos (i always heard these on older records, and now i know what i hear)
- typewriter keys and especially the sound it makes when it's at the end of a line
- older camera shutters opening and closing
- stir fry sizzles
- tambura/sitar drone (instant atmosphere)
- accordion accompaniment (i really like the way accordions sound when they back up something and are not front and center. ex: "jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam" and "god only knows")
- organs that come in and out (they are a good touch. ex: "tears of rage")
- the ringing a cash register makes
- the clicking and "kri-clush" a carbonated can makes
