• find or buy a blank book in which to jot down ideas, topics, places, and thoughts. choose one you'll enjoy having with you because you'll want to carry it on trips and holidays.
  • select a time every day when you can write in your journal. include feelings and ideas, but also to brainstorm for travel topics.
  • plan to spend about ten minutes to an hour each day with your journal. the more you write, the better writer you'll become.
  • you may want to use a loose-leaf notebook as your journal so you can file each topic in an appropriate place.
  • when traveling, write down the exact spelling of places and people's names in your journal. note details that will make your writing rich.
  • read the writing in your journal out loud and you should begin to hear your writer's voice.
