- tradition. i could live at a school that has only been around for 50 years, but i love the customs that certain colleges have, like georgia's arch.
- a great journalism program.
- great overall athletics. it kind of defeats the purpose of going into sports journalism without having a respectable athletic program at my college to cover. chelsea lipocky from georgia said, "i was also looking for a school with a strong athletics program. because i want to work in sports news, i knew a school with a strong program would lead to even more opportunities for me to get involved in things related to my major; and it has."
- division I, preferably.
- no weird mascots. this sounds a little shallow, but i'd rather not be known as a south carolina gamecock or a delaware blue hen.
- not too far away. even the mom thinks texas is too far. i'd get homesick anyway.
- big. i've gone to small private schools long enough. "you can make a big school small, but you can't make a small school big."
- a decent-looking campus. i'm not going to ucf with all its parking lots and cement buildings.
- a college town. again, ucf would not work because orlando could survive without ucf there.
- not super expensive.
- a college with a clean record and a good reputation. fsu is not happening because of that cheating scandal a while ago, and i'll always label them as cheaters. miami's not happening either.
