• For 3 years of my life I lived in a remodeled garage. The only door was the front door, there was a plastic shower outside (with just a shower curtain, we had to use a flashlight to see if we showered at night. Our neighbours were a trailer park and a mansion), and there was no central heating or air. In the summer we left the kitchen window and front door open, and my dad rented propane heaters in the winter. My mother, her boyfriend (who is now my non-legal stepfather), his daughter, myself, and my younger brother lived in the house together. There were two queen-sized beds (one of which was a futon that could be turned into a couch), a fireplace, a stove, a microwave, a television, a refrigerator, and a large trapezoid shaped cabinet on the floor that doubled as a table. The cloth hanging by the kitchen sink that held all the pots and pans was all that separated the toilet from the rest of the house. We hung all of our clothes on the shower rod of the rusty bathtub by one of the beds. The kitchen was an isle was only large enough for 3 people to stand in at a time. I’m glad we moved.
  • I fractured my right wrist skating when I was 10 or so, that’s the only incident where I’ve broken/almost broken a bone. My mom did the exact same thing a year later.
  • I had my tonsils removed when I was 7 because I used to snore really, really badly. Mum compared me to a train.
  • I took dance classes for 5 years when I was young. One year of tap dancing, two years of hip-hop and two years of jazz.
  • I was born in Tennessee, but when I was 3 my family moved to Florida. Between 3 and 9 I moved houses 12 times, between Florida, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
  • I was in choir for one year in elementary school, one year in middle school, and one year in high school.
  • I was raised to be a Christian and believed in God until I was 12. For some reason, the Christmas of my 12th year I randomly lost my faith. I just stopped believing, I still can’t explain it.
  • I won “most likely to live in a foreign country” in middle school and “most brutally honest” in high school. Not really proud of either of those things.
  • I wore the same jacket almost every single day of middle school, all 3 years.
  • I’ve been writing poetry and short stories since 6th grade and drawing since 8th.
  • I’ve dated 4 people in my life: 3 girls, and 1 boy. The boy was my longest relationship, almost four years.
  • I’ve had a weird stomach condition since I was a kid that my mother knew I had, but never looked into. Apparently when my body is done digesting food, the signal that’s sent to tell your body to dispose of what’s left doesn’t go off. My pediatrician said I’ll probably have to take medicine for it for the rest of my life.
  • My mom once dated a business man who had a mansion in Tennessee. The house was two stories, the television in the living room was as big as my bed, my mother had a garden tub, and there were at least 5 rooms. I loved that house, obviously, but it was bad because that guy was a jerk.
  • My mother had at least 5 different blue cars when I was growing up… and she wrecked every single one of them. I ALWAYS told her to stop buying goddamn blue cars. She finally bought a red one and someone else ended up hitting her. She obviously sucks at driving.
  • When I was 12 or so I was at the beach and there was red flag out. I was sitting in extremely shallow water by the shore, only a few inches deep. A little boy come up to me, he was about 7, and a total stranger, and asked if I would watch him swim because his parents were on the other side of the beach. I said yes, eventually I stuck my head under because I was getting sandy, and when I came up, I saw him getting pulled out into deep water because the current was too strong. I swam after him and we eventually got so far out that I couldn’t touch the bottom even if I held the boy up by his legs and propelled myself downward. I was pretty sure we were going to drown because I was getting tired mighty fast and he was screaming his head off which exhausted us both even more. I tried to push us towards the rocks along the jetty and eventually a coast guard saved us. That’s the closest I’ve ever came to dying.
