Agnes is the Latinized form of the Greek name Ἅγνη (Hagne) which is derived from ἁγνός (hagnos) meaning "chaste". It is also associated with the Latin agnus meaning "lamb". A sweet, oft-overlooked name.
Jay recently had a dream in which we had a daughter named Agnes. I am smitten. I could 100% see us with an Agnes—although her older brother was Perkins and I've yet to warm to that!
I think Aggie or Nessie would make marvelous nicknames.
