Ailsa is a name of Scottish origin, linked to the small island of Ailsa Craig. While its meaning is still debated, Encyclopaedia Britannica states the name Ailsa Craig is from the Scots Gaelic Ailsae Craig or Aillse Creag meaning “Fairy Rock”. This is likely influenced by the Norse name for the island Alfsigesey meaning "Alfsigr's island". Alfsigr is from the Norse alf meaning "elf" and sigr meaning "victory".
