Aoife is from the Old Irish Aífe, derived from oíph meaning "beauty". In the Ulster Cycle, Aífe is the daughter of Airdgeimm, and is a warrior woman beloved of Cuchullain.

The name is pronounced EE-fa and is sometimes (incorrectly) anglicized as Eva.
