Aster is from the Greek word ἀστήρ (aster) meaning “star”. The aster flower, which resembles a daisy, was named this due to the star-shaped flower head. According to legend, when Zeus placed the goddess Astraea among the stars, she began to cry as she looked down at the dark, starless earth. Her tears fell as stardust and where they landed asters bloomed. And, according to Virgil, these hardy flowers were made into wreaths and used to adorn the altars of the gods.

For me, Aster is a bright floral name but with a glint of mysterious darkness. The flowers symbolize love, faith, and wisdom.
