Aveline is a Norman French form of the Germanic name Avelina, a diminutive of Avila. Avila is a place name derived from the Germanic avi, possibly meaning "desired".
I, however, think of hazelnuts as aveline is the French word for "hazelnut".
Aveline has been on my radar for years and the only thing holding me back is the name's pronunciation. I've come across three: av-uh-LIN, av-uh-leen, AV-leen, and AYV-leen. Jay says AV-uh-line.
The last of which is the least common, and as my luck generally has it, it's my favorite. I think I've just accepted it at this point.
