Beorn is from the Old English beorn meaning "nobleman". It is also associated with the Old Norse bjǫrn meaning "bear". It was an appropriate name for the "skin changer" from Tolkien's The Hobbit. Beorn aided the party with their quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and exemplified the heroic Northern courage.
This is on Jay's list of names he would actually use. I quite fancy it as well due to the literary association and the connection to bees as in the book Beorn is a bee keeper!
