Bridget is from the old Celtic Brigantī meaning "the exalted one". It is an Anglicization of Brighid.

In Irish Mythology Brigid is the goddess of inspiration, poetry, wisdom, and healing. She was also associated with fire / the hearth, spring, fertility, and protection. Quite a diverse goddess!
