Brigid is from old Celtic Brigantī meaning "the exalted one".

In Irish Mythology Brigid is the goddess of inspiration, poetry, wisdom, and healing. She was also associated with fire / the hearth, spring, fertility, and protection. Also associated with Imbolc, she was so beloved in Ireland in pre-Christian times that instead of trying to eradicate her worship, Christians turned her into a sixth-century saint!
