Elaine is an Old French form of Helen, which is from the Greek Ἑλένη (Helene), possibly meaning "torch" or "corposant". Elaine is also seen in Arthurian legend where she is the lover of Lancelot and the mother of Galahad.

I love the name when combo'd with "clean" or earthy nature names especially. There are a few others that I have a love for.
