Idonea is a Medieval English name, probably a Latinized form of Iðunn. Iðunn is derived from the Old Norse prefix ið- "again, repeated" and unna "to love". In Norse mythology Iðunn was the goddess of spring and immortality whose responsibility it was to guard the gods' apples of youth.
