James is a derivative of Jacob, from the Hebrew יַעֲקֹב (Ya’aqov), meaning “supplanter”, “to follow”, or even “heel”. Though there is speculation that Jacob’s meaning may actually derive from the Hebrew יַעֲקֹבְאֵל (Ya’aqov’el), meaning “may God protect”. Regardless of the meaning, it’s the name of my best friend and love.
