Jo is a short form of Josephine, a feminine French form of the name Joseph. Joseph, from Ioseph, is the Latin form of Greek Ἰωσήφ (Ioseph), which was from the Hebrew name יוֹסֵף (Yosef) meaning "he will add". It's also a chiefly Scottish term of endearment, like 'sweetheart' or 'dear'.

It honors my father, Joe, but I have many Jo- name bearers in my family.

I see Jo as a carefree sort of name. It makes me think of lush gardens, beautiful birds, and the bright blue skies of summer.
