Nona is from the Latin nonus meaning "ninth". It was traditionally given to the ninth child born into a family. In Syriac it can mean "dove". It may also be a variant of Noena,a diminutive of names containing the Germanic element nand from the Proto-Germanic *nanþaz meaning "daring".
Nona is also the Roman goddess of pregnancy and one of the Parcae or fates. Alongside her sisters, Decima and Morta, Nona shared the power to shape and control the thread of life, weaving all destines onto her spindle.
