Peregrin is from the Latin Peregrinus meaning "pilgrim, traveler". For me, Peregrin is someone who is seeking, it is the search for knowledge. They are not a ruler, a hero, or a conquerer. They are an observer.
In medieval Europe, a peregrin was someone who left home not to escape but to seek knowledge. Then, in monastic texts a peregrinatio was someone who sought the highest calling: to trust God, the road, and other people.
Then, it also brings to mind peregrine falcons. They are sharp, the fastest creature on earth. In literature they can symbolize feedom and fidelity. Peregrine falcons travel far—farther than most animals—but still they return home.
It's a handsome name. I love the nicknames Per and Perry as well.
