Since Elizabeth mentioned Lee and Amanda as one of her favorite fictional couples the other day, I wanted to look back at the episodes of the show that I have enjoyed watching over and over again, including some of the ones that we have on tape from when I was 5 years old, and it came on late on the Family channel.

Season 1

  • 1.1 "The First Time": Amanda is hilarious throughout this episode; it reminds me of when Bones/Booth first interact because he is always so exasperated with her. In this episode they go after a cooking show lady who is leaking information and getting federal agents killed, so Amanda is responsible for saving Lee's life!
  • 1.3 "If Thoughts Could Kill": In this one, a mind control expert uses a duck to control Lee's thoughts, which sounds really goofy, but it's interesting because he i...

In honor of the National Spelling Bee (which I love), a list of all the words I remember misspelling in various spelling bees. 1st through 2nd grade were in front of the school.

  • 1st grade: tortoise (One of the Hunter twins beat Elizabeth and me because of this word; I feel like it was Justin)
  • 2nd grade: radish (spelled with two d's)
  • 5th grade: mayonnaise (during the school spelling bee and spelled with 2 s's instead of n's, but the other girl misspelled a word, too, so I actually ended up winning with the super simple meteorologist to go on to the district)
  • 5th grade: dumbbell (in the District Spelling Bee; left out a b; I felt really stupid, especially since I had just struggled to figure out barleycorns which of course is very easy, but I had no clue what it was since the definition was a measure ...

  • Being thought of as stupid (I feel like people sometimes have the tendency to look at me like I'm being completely stupid, and I hate feeling insecure about being stupid)
  • Feeling incompetent and incapable of bettering a situation
  • Losing someone in my family/losing friends
  • Not being considered a priority among my friends: when I think about the people I lost touch with after high school, I fear how easy it would be for some of my current friends to move on and not think about me anymore. My biggest fear about my friendships is that people are more important to me than I am to them, and this insecurity makes me nervous about losing people as friends later in life. I realize that I can partially control whether or not people stop talking to me because commun...

  • Titanic: I always found it very moving when I saw all the people dead in the water when the boats waited too long to come back, and the part which is to the music called "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave" when Rose is on the boat and then jumps out has made me cry.
  • An Affair to Remember: That moment when Cary Grant is waiting for Deborah Kerr on the top of the Empire State Building and there's a thunderstorm is just awful when she can never get there. Also when he goes to his grandma's house after his grandma has died and reminisces about when Terry sang when they visited during the cruise, his pain is heartrending.
  • From Here to Eternity: I think I was really affected by this film because I watched it late at night, and there was just a lot of death, and all the couples seemed so unhappy. I wonder if it's a coincidenc...

While I would clearly disagree with the numbering and some of the episodes included in my new TV Guide, I wanted to list out how many of the 100 episodes I've seen. Apparently the readers helped pick the episodes, and then the editors of TV Guide ranked them. Also, I want to mention that I hate Seinfeld and can't stand how much I'm always having to hear about how great it was, and I'm especially sick of hearing about this stupid contest episode.

  • 1. Seinfeld: "The Contest"
  • 2. The Sopranos: "College"
  • 3. The Mary Tyler Moore Show: "Chuckles Bites the Dust"
  • 4. I Love Lucy: "Lucy Does a TV Commercial"
  • 5. Lost: "Pilot"
  • 6. ER: "Love's Labor Lost"
  • 7. The Honeymooners: "Better Living Through TV"

  • There's no point in stressing about how the other party in the relationship is behaving when they're not giving you the same thought that you're giving them- it's not fair to you because they're not even thinking about you, and you're worried and upset off of what they did to you.
  • Relationships (friendships/family relationships and romantic relationships) are really concerned with expectations. No matter how great the person is, they will inevitably disappoint you because people always let you down in some way or other, even your best friends in the world- at some point something will happen, and your friend won't be available to you exactly when you need them, and that will be disappointing; the Lord is the only one who will never not be there for you because He's there 24/7 if you need Him. I need to learn not to expect that people will alway...

  • 1. Beauty and the Beast (1991): I saw this movie in the theater, so I must have been like 4 years old at the oldest when I first saw it. Belle is my favorite of the Disney princesses, and I always related to her the most because she loved reading just like I did when I was little. The Beast also loves her so much, which I really appreciate.
  • 2. Cinderella (1950): Cinderella's prince is somewhat lame, but I have loved this movie since I was a little girl, and the music is really wistful and always gets stuck in my head.
  • 3. Sleeping Beauty (1959): Aurora aka Briar Rose and Prince Phillip are one of my favorite couples, and the music by Tchaikovsky that is used is amazing.
  • 4. The Parent Trap (1961): While I somewhat enjoyed the remake in its own way, this one has always touched me more, primari...

Season 1

  • 1.8 "Love and War and Snow": Luke sees Lorelai and Max walking together in the snow while "Someone to Watch Over Me" plays, and when they kiss quickly Luke gets this stricken look on his face. Also Rory seems upset because Max is in the house and looks sadly at this picture of her mom and dad that she found when she was stranded at her grandma's house.
  • 1.9/1.10 "Rory's Dance"/"Forgiveness and Stuff": Rory goes to the formal dance at Chilton, and she falls asleep while at Miss Patty's with Dean, so her mom and grandma have a really horrible fight where Emily tells Lorelai that her daughter is going to make the same mistakes that she did, and then Lorelai yells at Rory and doesn't seem to believe that nothing happened. In the 2nd episode Lorelai's dad collapses (it turns out to only be angina), an...

  • Joey and Caitlin- I love them when they're together, but Joey is super pesty when he's with different people or sleeping with Tessa Campinelli as he did in the Degrassi High TV movie called School's Out or something like that.
  • Caitlin Ryan on her own- I've seen some Degrassi Junior High episodes, and she was just so adorable, and I found her acting realistic when she was dealing with the ramifications of having an epileptic seizure at a slumber party. I like her on Degrassi: The Next Generation as a recurring character even though she seems kind of klutzy which is a weird character trait to suddenly manifest as an adult.
  • Spike- I saw when she found out she was pregnant with Emma which was interesting because her mother reacted surprisingly well. I also found her acting better when in Degrassi: The Next Generation she had t...
