FAIRY ECHO KNIGHT (LV. 3)
- alignment: chaotic neutral
- a chaotic neutral character follows her whims. she is an individualist first and last. she values her own liberty but doesn’t strive to protect others’ freedom. she avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. a chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. to do so, she would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). a chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but her behavior is not totally random. she is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it.

- character traits:
- personality:
- i sees potential inside of everything and everyone. usually it's potential that can serve me, but potential nonetheless.
- i have a joke for every occasion, especially occasions where humor is inappropriate.
- i pocket anything i see that might have some value.
- ideals:
- independence. i am a free spirit – no one tells me what to do.
- bonds:
- i fleeced the wrong people and must work to ensure that this individual never crosses paths with me. i must not get caught again by the inquisition.
- i want to see my old friend again and live a life of adventure.
- flaws:
- i'm always in debt. i spend my ill-gotten gains on decadent luxuries faster than i bring them in.
- i'm too greedy for my own good. i can't resist taking a risk if there's money involved.
- background:
- charlatan: you have always had a way with people. you know what makes them tick, you can tease out their hearts' desires after a few minutes of conversation, and with a few leading questions you can read them like they were children's books. it's a useful talent, and one that you're perfectly willing to use for your advantage.
- favorite schemes:
- i convince people that worthless junk is worth their hard-earned money.
- i shave coins or forge documents.
- false identity: you have created a second identity that includes documentation, established acquaintances, and disguises that allow you to assume that persona. additionally, you can forge documents including official papers and personal letters, as long as you have seen an example of the kind of document or the handwriting you are trying to copy.
- peony's fake identity is briar bewitch, a fancy pixie that sells "rare" goods and provides forged documents to those who know her secret pinkie shake. her disguise is a dress made of light purple rose petals and a 'tiara' made from a scrap bottle cap. she carries around a fake signet ring, belonging to "the most noble duke bewitch of flalaland." he's imaginary, of course.
- in northwest faerûn, a tiny fairy was born inside a peony flower in the laughing hollow. like other sprites, peony was born with a potency to create mischief. her first act of resourcefulness was turning her birth flower into a chic outfit, matching petal shoes and all. she wasn't one to stick with the pack, and left for more exciting frontiers after hearing legends of treasure beyond the hollow. at seven years old, her hijinks led her to a traveler’s knapsack. she ended up in wald raserei of caelterra, before the traveler quickly moved on to the lucrative (and largest island of caelterra) empyrios.peony observed the bartering inhabitants in empyrios, learning the power of a good lie. because of her small stature, she was able to find objects that others couldn't see. a forgotten ring, a dropped coin, an antique key. she polished these items, adding her own tiny details, and made them look like they were worth a hundred gold pieces. but, she still had no place to call home. a jolly, old orc named burz worked as an inkeeper in the hearth district and took her in. for twenty years, he fed her, gave her a place to stay, and told her his stories. he introduced her to his side business of forging documents, and she perfected her small penmanship to fake any signature. he was the only mortal she didn't feel the urge to swindle. she began posing as someone much more powerful than she really was—"briar bewitch." she earned her keep, which she always spent as quickly as she had earned it. one night, her lies caught up to her. she was resting in a bird's nest on the roof of the inn when she was awoken by members of the inquisition division. she sold a "pearl" necklace (the beads were actually polished rat teeth) to the wrong noble. luckily, she was still in her 'briar' disguise so her identity was safe. however, the inquisition was tipped off to her forged documents—a much higher crime. she would be in the dungeon until the end of her pixie days! she nearly evaded capture but tore her left wing in the process, reducing her flying abilities. she would get easily tired when flying great heights or flying too long. from now on, while her 'briar' disguise afforded her great connections, it would bring the danger of being caught again. with no choice but to leave burz, she stowed away on an airship to travel to wald raserei. she went into hiding and joined the circle of the sylvan. there, she found a legion of mischievous fey just like her. over the years, she learned new tricks, made new fey friends, and picked up sprite clothes-making. she learned to fight with a sword and shield, and channeled her fey connection to create an echo of herself. while she loved the beauty of the everfall woods, something just felt missing. she didn't like being under the jurisdiction of venhana—she was always an independent fairy. she missed her life of travel, scheming silly humans, making old things new, and that sweetie burz. here, surrounded by fey nature, there was no one to trick and nothing shiny to steal. peony decides she would resume her life of adventure, promising her fey friends that she would come back some day soon. burz was already old all those years ago, she would have to see him before he was gone. unless he's already gone? peony wouldn't think about that as she hid in a bucket on a newfangled airship enroute to somewhere new.
