• drinking a freddo cappuccino, eating mini cheese pies, and reading Lucrezia Borgia at a little taverna on the beach of Pacheia Ammos, by myself
  • sitting in the passenger seat of the dingy truck with Sydney driving and Amie in the back, listening to a 90's dance playlist, singing along, winding along the wildflower-lined tortuous roads of east Crete
  • sipping on an ice-cold coke, half-pretending to sort pottery in the stoa, with the woody outdoor smell and listening to Tchaikovsky
  • debating and speculating with my dad as to what certain architectural features were at Phaistos
  • eating yogurt me mela with Diane in the shade in Heraklion, talking about everything and nothing
  • missing our stop on the KTEL with Diane, going about a half hour longer to the next bus stop, finding a cab, and getting a ride to Gortyn, where we ended up staying for 45 minutes because it was too hot
  • the last night with my dad, eating those fantastic gyros in Monastiraki, looking at the Parthenon
  • singing Conical Cups in the giant, white, 9-person van with Amie, Sydney, Diane & Florence and PPB overhearing and smiling
  • Amie creating the music and lyrics for Bootie Bounce without realizing it wasn't actually a song
  • walking up the steep back road to our tiny apartment, passing by stray cats and Amie crooning the theme song to Sesame Street
  • swimming and floating in the crystal clear water at Chrysi, looking at the black jagged rocks lining the beach, feet touching the smooth pebbles on the ocean floor, cooling off on my lunch break
  • watching Never Let Me Go in between Amie and Sydney in an uncomfortable chair, each of us crying our eyes out while trying to hide it from each other; there was something so real and connecting about that moment, where i started to let myself open up to them
  • walking in the cool, light gray fresco gallery of the Herakleion Museum, the wall paintings towering over me, one after the other showing their ancient pigments and hand-molded reliefs
  • digging into that dirt for the first time, with the top-heavy pick getting advice from Amie and Sydney
  • scurrying down boulders and hopping over puddles on the hike down Richtis Gorge, the rain sometimes drizzling and cooling us off
  • the relief of sitting down after the treacherous attempt to walk out of the Gorge, perched in the back of a dirty pickup truck driven by two generous Greek guys, with a woman from Belgium and her husband, and a middle-aged German couple as it poured, our clothes becoming completely soaked but the rain wholly welcomed after a sticky afternoon of hiking
  • getting into the routine of matching artifacts with their INA numbers, laughing and crying with Amie, Sydney, Diane & Florence, sipping on a coke for relief, in the sunny, breezy courtyard of the study center
  • that one bus ride back from Siteia, when we were on the edge of a cliff, overlooking a tiny bay with mountains in the background, the clouds parting in the sky to let a stream of light down onto the glistening blue waters
  • eating tzaziki in a shaded taverna near the ocean Siteia with A, S, D & F after a hot day on the sunny beach
  • meeting my dad at the airport, our hug
  • seeing Delphi with my dad, the landscape, the temple, everything, enjoying the day with him and the wonders
  • getting that goofy selfie with my dad under the Lion's Gate
  • hating on that annoying af girl on our bus tour with my dad, rolling our eyes, making mean comments perhaps a bit too loud
