Two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency.

Moments

  • Red is released from prison and subsequently gains a job at a grocery store. Each time he needs to use the bathroom, he asks permission from his supervisor.
    • This scene shows how one can become institutionalised through prison, and how difficult adaption into the real world now becomes. Red has adapted to the point where he is dependent on control from others.
  • The men sit on the rooftop drinking beer.
    • This is a scene that simply shows what is required for a person to feel free. Freedom is when a person can do something without fear, without control, without restrictions. The men were more free in prison drinking beer than they were on the outside with the law.
  • Andy plays classical music over the prison.
    • A scene that represents rebellion in the most true of forms. A representation of rebellion rooted in the want of peace.
