what i need

  • need a much lighter note-taking software for me to write things down, which is: a minimal loading screen when opening it, doesn't become bloated and slow when i add more notes to it.
  • need something as simple like a notepad. but also has its own notes library system to keep things all organized.
  • need it to be a markdown
  • need it to be an open source and possibly free
  • need it to be able to sync because having 2 different note-taking software on different devices is a pain (double notes everywhereeeee)

quick brief

  • QOwnNotes is a free open source (GPL) plain-text notepad. The program has support for markdown, and includes a to-do list manager that works on FreeBSD, Linux, MacOS and Windows. It can optionally work together with the notes application of ownCloud or Nextcloud.

+ plus point +

  • 1. it's a markdown!!!!!!
  • 2. have been added 100+ notes on it, does not lag at all. (run on 50mb ram, almost 0% cpu (sometimes its up to 0.4%, 0.8%. rarely see up to 2%))
  • 3. easy and free to sync with 8 gb storage
  • 4. can change font and customize the panel of the notes thru the editor fonts & color setting
  • 5. can make a 'subfolder' in the note itself thru the heading because of the heading navigation feature. (so you can just throw the entire chapter's notes of your college book into one note item, easy navigation type shi)
  • 6. sub-tag features. damn.
  • 7. can separate notes into different vaults, just like obsidian (for qownnotes, the name is notes folder located in the setting)
  • 8. frequently got updated almost every month
  • 9. highly customizable note panel, so you can choose between maximalism ui, or minimalism ui. or inbetween.
  • 10. it has???? hah??? semi-active plugins community apparently.. (the name is script repository in the setting. wow.)
  • 11. it's completely free.

- minus point -

  • 1. kinda outdated ui
  • 2. cant change the color of the ui :< (you can, with the plugin. =w=; but you still have to write it in css yourself)
  • 3. isn't a fan of the preview feature
  • 4. doesn't have a feature to hide the markdown format when you finish writing it down like obsidian/logseq, so it will become messy in the eyes if you didn't use the preview feature. i dont really mind tho, markdown format is beautiful
  • 5. somehow it doesnt support underline format? (even tho they have a customization option of underline format in the editor fonts & color setting). probs because of the markdown itself didn't provide an underline format.
  • 6. not much applause :< this shi is too underrated for getting all of its job done. try it.

that's all. support open sources project!
