  • Sworn virgins
    • An article called "Sworn Virgin" or something like that about a custom (now well extinct) in pre-20th century northern Albania of women swearing virginity and living like men in dress and professions in case their families did not have sons. It was also their duty to defend the family in case of a blood feud as a son would. This got me thinking whether women who decided to live this life were asexual because most said in their letters and diaries they wouldn't change it for anything, that the fact they had gender equality trampled the fact that they had nun's vows. I KNOW I would gladly volunteer in their place too rather than be in a submissive marriage.
