  • so, my birthday is coming up on Thursday, February 2. i am not expecting any commemoration of it, mind you, so i don't want anyone thinking they're obligated to mark it in any way (other, that is, than the ubiquitous cake and well-wishes). HOWEVER, should any of my nearest and dearest wish to more formally observe the occasion-- i could use some ties.
  • now, i'm not terribly picky. (well, i am, but that's gauche to say, so let's just pretend i never said it.) i only have a few ground rules. they are as follows:
  • 1) no novelty ties please. i will not wear them, and it will be a waste of both our time.
  • 2) no bow ties. they look charming on other people, but not on me.
  • 3) vintage is fine, but nothing excessively wide or excessively narrow. i will be wearing anything i receive to work, so it needs to be reasonably professional. current standard width is perfect.
  • 4) my personal preferences are for paisleys, tasteful florals, and conservative patterns; but i like and will wear anything nice. i am sorely lacking in striped ties at the moment, for example.
  • 5) colours are pretty much up for grabs, but i do gravitate towards warm earth tones such as forest green and burgundy red, as well as anything in the brown family. navy blue variations are always safe. but if you want to go flamboyant, go ahead and do it. don't look back. William can attest that my wardrobe could use a little livening up.
  • that's it, really. i like old things. i like new things. where you get it doesn't matter to me one whit; buy one second-hand at a 25-cent sale or steal one from your grandpa's closet. i don't care. and don't feel obligated to send me any at all.
