- He isn’t what he seems to be. People write him off (I suppose historically as well as in the show) as a thug, a gangster, but he had wits and charm as well that only served to hit people harder when they underestimated him.
- I can relate a lot to his sometime-inability to communicate feelings properly. (this is headcanon-y, so shoot me.) While I have no issue with words, I can completely understand not being comfortable saying something even if someone else needs you to, and the frustration that comes with not having the right thing just under your tongue. This also goes for him being a shitty liar, which I definitely am. I consider that HISTORY, also, for him, because if the semi-transcript of his court case that Newark provided in his biography is anything to go by? Boy just dug himself a deeper hole, being put on the stand.
- LOYALTY. Kind of a giant deal for me personally, and Charlie’s loyal to an almost inane extent. Even historically speaking, keeping the same circle close nearly all his life and making sure they were taken care of, when he didn’t ~have~ to. For being the sort of person much of society writes off as heartless, he doesn’t strike me as being such at all.
- Speaking of not being heartless, PUPPIES. YOU TOUGHASS GANGSTER YOU LOVED PUPPIES SO FUCKING MUCH AHHHHHH
- His complete unwillingness to go legit. Is it so wrong of me to find that fascinating, as much as relate to it because as an artist I share that idea of I NEVER WANT TO HAVE A REAL JOB AHH after a similar handful of retail-type things?
- also bonuses specific to Vincent Piazza’s performance of him: his accent/growly voice, KINETIC FUCKING ENERGY (this is historical too, to some extent - Vincent based it off some small amount of film footage of Charlie available), his stupid ring he always wears, CURLICUES and how he is driven by the power of friendship I mean money uhhhhh
