five days/four nights in september or october?
needs to be really light (carry-on only) so use joan didion's packing list as a base
clothes need to be sink-washable, fast-drying, and suit:
- airplane
- opera
- bar hopping
- art galleries, museums
- gardens, walking around
- lounging (in shared house)
so:
- black v-neck sweater
- black corseted tank
- either grey three-quarter sleeve shirt-dress or oversized light blue button-up (weather-depending)
- red skirt
- palazzo pants
- black shorts (for sleeping/lounging; dries fast)
- oversized black t-shirt (for sleeping/lounging; dries fast)
- compression crop
- socks and underwear (3)
- sneakers
- sandals
- leather jacket (weather-depending)
toiletries:
- travel brush
- bar shampoo/conditioner
- amber face/body soap
- toothpaste, toothbrush
- razor
- deodorant
- pain meds
- prescriptions
- tampons
- moisturizer
- sunscreen
- mini vaseline
- mini lip balm
- eyeshadow, compact, lipstick
- perfume (1-2, sample sized)
- notes: everything decanted/as small as possible; shampoo/conditioner/soap cut down so all fit into one small container that will only last the trip
other:
- passport, wallet, presto card
- phone/charger
- notebook and pen
- watch, necklace, ring, sunglasses + chain
- earplugs, earbuds
- small purse
- face masks
plans:
- opera
- bar-hopping, goth night?, jazz bar
- kensington market
- AGO (yayoi kusama installation, melissa auf der mar exhibit) and ROM (whale heart, bethlehem bride), plus smaller galleries/museums if time permits
notes:
- arrive thursday - walking around, gardens, eating my way around kensington market; friday museums/galleries; saturday bar-hopping; sunday opera; leave monday morning
- could potentially arrive friday instead and compress thursday/friday into one day, but would be really rushed
- flying into billy bishop ideal (same price with porter; pedestrian tunnel or ferry from island to downtown)
- room has hair dryer, no need to pack one
- room also has fridge, microwave, kettle; save some $$$ and buy groceries instead of takeout single for every meal
- kind of feeling like the universe keeps pushing me towards this trip (oh, a melissa auf der mar exhibit isn't enough for you? have a yayoi kusama installation in the very same gallery) but i also feel like there's a catch and i shouldn't go (maybe just like. fuel prices are the catch. and toronto is very expensive anyway)
- would cost, at minimum, $1700 to $2000; better to just spend half that at home and have an extremely indulgent and hedonistic summer? i think that is the way. so this list is null and void. but i'm leaving it because that's a great one-bag packing list that i will definitely use for all future travel
