I don't miss childhood, but it had its moments.

  • My childhood best friend objected to building a road through the mall. "What will happen to the food court?" It was a pedestrian mall -- across town from the shopping mall.
  • My little brother didn't notice race until Martin Luther King Jr Day when the subject was brought up in his first grade class. Later on, my brother said with sincere dismay to a black boy, "It's too bad no one is going to like you when you grow up."
  • I was listening to a song that my parents played regularly when I noticed the words "sewer side" in the lyrics. It wasn't until years later that I found out the word was "suicide" and learned its meaning.
