I'm putting a new hard drive into my laptop. Presently I'm waiting for the hardware to arrive. Here is my long to-do list.

• Back up current hard drive
  • There should be room on 120GB external drive
    • Measure size of Home folder...that's what I want to keep
  • Keep everything on the larger external drive
  • Be sure to update Music folder for additions/removals
• Operating systems
  • Windows 7 Home Premium (ordered)
  • Ubuntu Natty Narwhal...
    • Beta one: 31 March
    • Final release: 28 April
  • Install Windows 7 first.
  • Then install Ubuntu at beta, RC, or final release
• Partitions and space
  • Windows 7: 100GB to 150GB
  • Ubuntu Natty: 400GB to 350GB
  • Partition first so that Windows never gets the whole drive
• Things to install...
  • Windows 7:
    • Firefox/Google Chrome/Flock/Mozilla Thunderbird
    • OpenOffice/LibreOffice
    • Civilization IV (game)
    • Fable: The Lost Chapters (game)
    • Ogg Vorbis codecs
    • Last.fm plugin/software
  • Ubuntu:
    • Just back up current configurations/installs and replace those
• Little things to remember
  • Firefox bookmarks must be backed up and restored
  • Firefox add-ons/settings should be noted
  • Keep this list updated with new ideas and plans
