Sadly, owning an entire shelf of writing reference books does not count as a milestone.

Things that I have done

• Pushed myself to write a certain amount every day.
• Finished writing a novel.
• Finished writing a short story.
• Read every day for months.
• Learned to see the underlying structure in what I read.
• Recognized and identified techniques another writer has used.
• Written a million words.

Things that I have not yet done

• Always had an idea to work on.
• Written five days a week at minimum.
• Edited a full piece of fiction.
