- The prison industrial complex is a fundamentally unjust system; one that disproportinately affects women, people of colour, LGBTIQ+ people, sex workers, trans and working class communities.
- The ruling class determines what crimes warrant incarceration; prisons don't work in our interest
- Prison is about punishment, not reformation or justice
- Prison is a system of brutality that takes advantage of the already vulnerable (e.g. mentally ill people) for profit
- Austerity and cuts to legal aid will see more people jailed
- Illegal immigration, sex work and drug possession are key reasons for being sent to jail but these 'crimes' pose absolutely no threat to public safety
- People are politically targeted by the state and unfairly treated
- Of all women in jail for murder, 60% killed their violent out-of-control partners. It's not fair that women who acted in self-defence against abusive guys face imprisonment.
